If you think you know avocados – you don’t. You only know Hass. Statistics say that California grows 80-85% of the country’s avocados. And 95% of those are Hass variety. But did you know there are over 500 varieties! Why can’t you find them in your stores, you might wonder. Well – its because the Hass is hybridized for mass harvesting, for cold storage, for being able to handle the rough “mass” picking and packing to get them to your local store at an inexpensive price.

The avocados you’ll find at the Avocado Diva are hand picked, unusual varieties, and not really “created” for long term storage or rough handling. Our avocados might be Fuertes, Bacons, Santanas, Gwens, Pinkertons, Zutanos, Lamb Hass, regular Hass or any other unique variety we source from that small farm or rancher. The beauty of this is the avocado you’ll get to eat might have a paper thin skin (thin skinned varieties can’t handle machines, or rough packing houses) – so you’ll never find them in your standard grocery store. You won’t believe how delicious these “alligator pears” can be! We can’t wait for you to try them!
