Frequently Asked Questions
What is unique about your avocados?

We search out “heritage” varieties of avocados that grow along California’s coast. Most people have only ever been exposed to Hass avocados – and often, Hass from South American countries (Mexico and Chili or Peru).

Why don’t stores carry varieties other than Hass?

Hass is a great avocado – for the main reason that it can handle harsh picking, machines to sort it, and lots of bumps in shipping them in mass quantities to grocery stores. Heritage varieties (like Gwen, Fuerte, Santana, Pinkertons, etc.) are often only available for short times, have then skins (that can’t handle rough situations). The Hass is also available almost year round. The Avocado Diva will send you a Hass here and there – but you can bet they will be the BEST Hass – or unique ones – fresh and delicious from California.

Do the heritage avocados taste different?

Much like fine wine – avocado varieties can vary greatly and you will be amazed at how delicious and unique they can be! The subtle differences in flavor, the huge differences in sizes, the amazing differences in oil content – these all change the mouth feel, tastiness and ways that can use them in cooking. Of COURSE they taste different! You’ll enjoy experiencing the difference – so sign up for our avocado of the month club today!

What kind of avocados are out there?

These are over 500 varieties of avocaodos, with unique tastes, textures and flavors. The water and/or oil content can range drastically. The taste and oil content of some avocados can even vary depending on the year or time in the season they are harvested. For example, an avocado harvested early in its season has much less oil than one (even from the same tree) late in the season. Like wine grapes that stay on the vine a long time – and gain in sugars, avocados left on a tree gain in weight and percentage of their delicious oil.

What is the Avocado of the Month club?

You sign up, we send you avocados once a month! You can stop the anytime you like by alerting us before that shipment has gone out. You can choose a little or a lot!

You’ll be sure to get our best, unique avocados each month, before they sell out.

What if I want to try it first?

Then try it - buy the one basket option - of whichever avocado is in season. You'll pay the shipping (the club price INCLUDES shipping). But we're pretty sure you'll LOVE them!

When will my avocados ship?

Three answers:

  1. Avocado of the Month club boxes will ship during the second week of any given month. We’ll get them from the grower early in that week – and start lovingly packing and shipping them all week long. Depending on where you live, you should get them during the third week of the month. (Avocados should not be left outdoors for long periods of time, nor in your mailbox…so look for them and bring them in and eat them! Yum yum!)
  2. If you order a specialty item, salsas, clothes, tools, gift basket, etc. – we will ship it right away (within 48 hours) OR when you specify (e.g. – if you want us to wait for a birthdate or a holiday).
  3. Some products have specific ship dates in the description (e.g. – if we are sourcing a unique item – like “mini avocados” – or another rare item). Check out the description to see the ship date. Some items are worth the wait (and mother nature does make us wait sometimes… but she’s worth it!)
How can I send avocados as a gift?

Of course! As you check out with your shopping cart, indicate it’s a gift and where to ship it too. We can also gift wrap and/or add a card.
